I received my Ph.D. from Tokyo University of Science in 1993 and then held postdoctoral positions at the University of California, Berkeley (USA) and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Laboratories (UK) before becoming a group leader at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Institute, Christie Hospital (UK). I have held my current position since 2015.
My research goal is to understand the relationship between aging and cancer by elucidating the molecular mechanisms of cellular senescence.

After receiving my Ph.D. from Kyoto University in 2011, I worked five years as a postdoctoral researcher at RIKEN under team leader Dr. Sidonia Fagarasan. I joined as an Assistant Professor in 2016 and have worked as an Associated Professor since 2023. I have consistently been interested in the impact of the gut microbiota on the host since graduate school and have clarified the interaction between the gut microbiota and the host immune system. My research goal is to define the impact of commensal flora on cancer and aging, which will lead to the development of new methods to control cancer and aging. I love visiting microbreweries!

After receiving my master's degree from the Graduate School of Life Science & Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology, I once worked and experienced corporate research.s After that, I obtained my PhD on the relationship between inflammation and carcinogenesis from the Graduate School of Medicine, Kobe University, and since July 2016, I have been working in the Hara Laboratory focusing on the relationship between inflammation, carcinogenesis and aging. While studying in Hara's lab, which conducts cutting-edge cellular aging research, I aim to establish new cancer therapies.

I completed my PhD at Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine in 2011. Since then, I have conducted research mainly on the role of integrins and ligand binding in the pathogenesis of cancer and autoimmune diseases at the Research Institute for Genetic Medicine, Hokkaido University, Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, and Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer, Tohoku University. In April 2023, I joined the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University as a specially appointed Assistant Professor. In this laboratory, I would like to add the elements of cellular senescence and aging to the research I have conducted so far and devote myself to establishing new therapeutic approaches to cancer and inflammatory diseases by taking a multidimensional approach to immunology.
