Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are a family of receptors involved in pathogen recognition, and play crucial roles in initiating inflammation and development of adaptive immunity. Here we review the recent advances that have been made by research into the role of TLRs in host defense and diseases such as inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
