Legionella pneumophila deliver a large array of “effector proteins” into host cells to coordinate or hijack host cellular processes. Here, we provide the first evidence of “metaeffector”, a designation for an effector protein that regulates another effector function in infected cells; Legionella E3 ubiquitin ligase LubX targets another effector protein SidH to host proteasome-mediated degradation.
