Welcome to the PIGS lab! The theme of our laboratory is "Biology and Medicine of GPI anchors". GPIs are used for numerous proteins to be anchored onto the plasma membrane in both mammalian hosts and pathogens. Our aim is to understand the roles of GPI anchors for human physiology as well as for successful infection and survival of pathogens within the hosts. To this end, we study the biosynthesis and trafficking of GPI anchors in mammalian cells, yeasts, parasitic protozoans, and mycobacteria.
